Petition for a Black Box Warning to Name and Describe Akathisia a Serious Medication Risk

This call to action was unexpected - I came across this critically important petition today and wanted to share it immediately. 

The Inner Compass Initiative, which helps people make informed choices about psychiatric medications, has endorsed a petition to the FDA Commissioner and other global authorities ‘to require black box warnings to explicitly name and describe akathisia’. 

Akathisia involves extreme restlessness and increased risk of suicide. A side effect of many psychiatric medications, patients are rarely, if ever, informed of this risk, only to learn about it after the condition has developed. Additional medications are often prescribed in an effort to relieve symptoms, despite the likelihood they will make the condition worse. 

We can do better.
